Showtime Sound Provides Production for John Mulaney’s Historic Wrigley Field Performance

August, 2026

History was made at Chicago’s iconic Wrigley Field last month, as over 40,000 people attended comedian John Mulaney’s sold-out hometown performance. On July 11, 2026, Mulaney became the first-ever stand-up artist to sell out the legendary ballpark, creating an unforgettable evening for comedy fans from across the country. Showtime Sound was proud to provide comprehensive audio, video, and lighting control for this special event, ensuring every joke, visual, and production cue reached the massive audience with exceptional clarity and precision.

This show was especially meaningful for our crew because it marked another chapter in our longstanding relationship with John Mulaney. Over the years, Showtime Sound has had the privilege of supporting many of his performances, making this milestone feel like a true full-circle moment. Jacob Lewis, (Tour PM/A1), Eric Miller, (Lighting Director) and Project Manager, Demitrios (Dimi) leromonahos of Showtime personally worked with Mulaney on his “From Scratch” tour in 2022. Ieromonahos remarked, “From working with John in the past in all types of venues: including smaller theaters and arenas, it was an honor to be part of this amazing show.”

Producing a live event inside one of the nation's most noteworthy sports venues requires extensive planning, technical expertise, and flawless execution. From delivering crystal-clear sound throughout Wrigley Field, to coordinating video and lighting control, every element of the production had to work seamlessly together. Ieromonahos noted, “Not only did we provide production services for Mulaney, but we also supported special guests David Letterman, Buddy Guy, Fred Armisen, and Richard Kind.” He continued, “For audio, our team used a combination of Yamaha, Avid, and Digico consoles to meet the individual needs of this unique line-up. Of course, working with an L-Acoustics PA was paramount in the performance.” Video was also a massive part of the show’s success. Ieromonahos explained, “For video services, the biggest challenge was working with the stadium house screens and supplemental LED while color-matching them and minimizing audio and video delay. We were using a combo of wired and wireless cameras, because all the aspects of the show that needed to be covered video-wise were not limited to the stage. We combated these challenges by working closely with the Wrigley Field AV team. Thus, we experienced zero latency in perfect sync across the board.” Lighting was another crucial element for this historical show. Ieromonahos detailed, “For lighting, Eric Miller, our Lighting Designer and Programmer, used a combination of green drape (A Mulaney favorite) along with a multitude of fixtures. Our team especially liked working with Ayrton Rivale Profiles and Atomic Poppies on this show.” In the end, every piece came together to ensure the production value of the Mulaney show matched it’s monumental importance.
